I wrote this a few years ago 2010 it needs an update.
This is why you should not go to college and why I quit.
I went to college for about a year or so and I realized some things in this time.
Why I quit
They were teaching me the following things:
- stuff I already knew
- stuff I could have taught myself for free
- stuff I didn’t want to know
I was realizing my chance of getting a job as a computer engineer were very low at the time.
Working at fedex made me realize that I like more physical warehouse type work and computers are for fun not for a job.
They make you pay for unnecessary classes that they require. If they force you to take them then you shouldn’t have to pay for them. scam.
Now I have a bunch of money to pay back for a years waste of time and it’s been messing with my credit. I’m glad I didn’t stay in college and have to pay back even more for stuff i didn’t need or could have learned for free.
If someone makes a college like the one in the movie “accepted” that would be a something to consider.
why it’s a bad idea for you
We live in an age of Internet and books. If you want to learn something, learn it. Theres no need to pay thousands of dollars. Plus by learning this way you can teach yourself (best way to learn) and you get a lot of different perspectives on things; not just what failing outdated government school systems want you to learn.
The chances of finding a job for what you went to college for is very low. I’ve talked to way to many people with college degrees that have regular jobs with no or little relation to their degree. Or they have no jobs at all. You can’t just go by unemployment rates either because plenty of people with degrees do have jobs just not the ones they wanted.
Learning is really simple you got people that know stuff and you got people that don’t know stuff. Get them together and BAM! more people know stuff. No need for thousands of dollars and other fancy stuff.
It’s a scam. They just want your money. That’s why there are so many ads on TV and stuff. And why they get people to talk it up like its good. They probably wouldn’t have to do that so much if it actually was good.

* there are some things that college may be good for but theres way too many crap degrees and stuff you shouldn’t have to go to college for. The bad thing is that a lot of people don’t hire depending on skill alone they want a degree, kind of a scam. There are plenty of people with skills (or abilities to learn skills) in things that don’t have jobs because they don’t have a degree in it. scam.
